When to upgrade from Starter to a paid plan

Signs you've outgrown the free tier and which plan makes sense.

Updated April 12, 2026

Starter is designed to be a real free tier

Free Starter gets 3 clients and 10 AI generations per month. For a new coach, a side hustle, or someone testing the platform, that's enough to see if PT Lab fits your workflow. You're not on a trial — you can stay on Starter as long as you want.

Signs you need to upgrade

  • You have more than 3 active clients you want to manage
  • You're burning through 10 AI generations in the first half of the month
  • You want to add a second coach to share the client roster
  • You're running multiple multi-week programs simultaneously (each uses several credits)
  • You want shared organization features like custom exercise libraries per org

Which plan to pick

The paid plan — pick your client count, unlimited coaches, every feature included

PT Lab has one paid coach plan priced via a slider. You pick your client count and see your exact price. Starts at $19/mo (5 clients, 30 AI) and scales up to $229/mo (200 clients, 1200 AI). Every slider position includes unlimited coach seats, every feature, and shared client rosters. No per-seat charges. No feature paywalls. Resize any time as you grow. Coaching 200+ clients? Adding more AI

The paid plan supports AI packs — recurring monthly add-ons that increase your monthly AI generation cap. Top-up pack (+50 AI) for $7/mo, Standard pack (+100 AI) for $14/mo, Power pack (+250 AI) for $32/mo, or Heavy pack (+500 AI) for $60/mo. You can stack packs, cancel any time, and resize to a different pack at your next billing cycle.

What you keep when upgrading

Everything. Your clients, routines, history, AI preferences, goals, messaging history, exercise library, custom exercises — none of it is tier-locked. Upgrading just increases your caps.
